The Crossing of Ingo (Ingo #4)
The story is about the adventures of Connor and Sapphire, who loose their father to the world of Ingo. He is believed to have drowned but Connor and Sapphire refuse to believe that their father is dead. As they and their mother struggle to get through the life without their father, Connor discovers the world of Ingo through Elvira, a mermaid who befriends Connor, and Sapphire soon follows Connor into Ingo with the help of her merfriend Faro. Sapphire becomes obsessed with the sea and Ingo owing to her strong mixed human-merpeople heritage. Unlike Connor who has more of the Air or Earth spirit in him, Sapphire’s Water/Ingo spirit dominates her thought process. As they delve deeper into this new world, they discover the whereabouts of their father, who turns into a merman and has a whole new mer-family. The story then moves to describe the different aspects of the ocean that Sapphire and Connor discover including their mer powers, and concludes with the family moving from Cornwall to a new location.
This fantasy series is quite enjoyable to read if you are an avid fan of merpeople and legends as such. One will appreciate the adaptable and more matured Connor when compared to the stubborn and hard headed Sapphire, who is quite intent on escaping the human world and her problems. On the whole, this is a good to read book.
I'm so glad Dunmore decided to write this fourth book of the 'Ingo' series, even though originally the series was to only be a trilogy. Dunmore continues to create the believable underwater world of Ingo with her fabulous, often lyrical, descriptions. For me "The crossing of Ingo" is the most action packed book in the series as Sapphire, Conor, Elvira and Faro answer the call to cross Ingo - a long and dangerous journey that only the strongest young Mer can make. With Ervys and his followers
A different pace to the other Ingo books, but I'm glad to have finally read it.
Good book. Well written. Nice to continue the story with Sapphire and her friends.
For a fourth book this was totally amazing and the best way to end an mind blowingly amazing series!!
The Crossing of INGO by Helen Dunmore Ingo #4 Fantasy, 5th grade and up So this is supposedly the conclusion but really Im certain that theres another one I have on order, shall see how the story continues soon enough. I enjoyed this book because it didnt become heavy handed but certainly addressed environmental issues as characters visited oceans around the globe and discussed warming and impact of pollution. It was interesting to read a political mermaid book how politics got into a mermaid
This was a thrilling book and I loved how the four teens had to bond together to face the challenges that lay ahead of them going south instead of north for the perilous crossing of Ingo. How will Sapphire and Conor react to their dad not standing up for them when they approached the seeing stone? In the end, they must forgive their father and realize he still cares enough to die for them when it comes to that. They all part their separate ways and leave Faro in Mer for the time being while

Commentary Toward Books The Crossing of Ingo (Ingo #4)
Helen Dunmore, a British author, well known for her books for children, has come out with yet another fantasy series called the Ingo series. Initially a trilogy, it soon went onto become a series with a total of 4 books. Ingo is the 1st book of the series. A fan of Harry Potter, I picked this book just by glancing at its cover…it featured a mermaid. :)The story is about the adventures of Connor and Sapphire, who loose their father to the world of Ingo. Okay, I have fallen hopelessly in love with Ingo since sixth grade. For some obnoxious reason, The Crossing of Ingo wasn't available in American libraries, so I had to buy it--which totally wasn't a problem because no matter how old I will get these books will always have a special place in my heart. :)GOOD STUFF!:To be brief, I was not disappointed!! I was SO HAPPY to see that Connor got over Elvira. I don't have any specific problem with her, besides the general "mary sue" vibe she gaveI'm so glad Dunmore decided to write this fourth book of the 'Ingo' series, even though originally the series was to only be a trilogy.
