A really nice trick Schmitt presents us in this tiny little book: he lets a terminally ill boy experience every day he has left as if it were a decade, and in this way Oscar lives a "full" live. The candid tone of the little boy reminded me very much of the Little Prince by Exupery, including the wise-cracking and the fairy tale-atmosphere. Occasionally this results in very touching passages.But that's all for the positive remarks. This is such a sad story, but at the same time beautiful beyond words... It deeply touched my heart...
This book is a stark look at death from the point of view of a 10 year old boy with terminal cancer. The honesty of the writing was really quite refreshing and makes it a clear and frank book to start a conversation with children about death, though at the same time there are some really genuinely funny moments.I have a feeling Im going to be thinking about this book for a while.
Naah. cute story line but hated reading it in French ...
Told in the voice of a ten year old boy, this novella is very delicate and touching. It's one of the books I didn't want to finish reading.
I dont know why I waited so long to read this book only to finish it in an hour.It was one of the best reading hour I ever had.A small but impactful book. Life-changing, you may say. A must-read.
