Ilustration Supposing Books Black Cross (World War Two #1)

It is January 1944 — and as Allied troops prepare for D-day, Nazi scientists develop a toxic nerve gas that will repel and wipe out any invasion force. To salvage the planned assault, two vastly different but equally determined men are sent to infiltrate the secret concentration camp where the poison gas is being perfected on human subjects. Their only objective: destroy all traces of the gas and the men who created it — no matter how many lives may be lost...including their own.

Stunning....From the very first page, Greg Iles takes his readers on an emotional roller-coaster ride, juxtaposing tension-filled action scenes, horrifying depictions of savage cruelty, and heart-stopping descriptions of sacrifice and bravery. A remarkable story from a remarkable writer.” — Booklist

Assessment Based On Books Black Cross (World War Two #1)
A rare bird: fast-paced thriller where the writing doesn't suffer. I'll be reading more Iles very soon.

WOW! If you like action the action and adventure in a James Rollins Novel, the historical accuracy of Tim Powers and a tightly woven complex plot like in Robert Ludlum's books, you'll love this one. It's strange, the books I like the most, get the shortest reviews? (funny huh?)The story is set in WWII England and Germany. The main character, a Doctor and Scientist who is also a pacifist, and one of the Allies leading experts on poison gas gets recruited for a risky mission with little chance of

Completely unbelievable but a right good read and very hard to put down.I shall be reading more by this author.P.S. First one of my Reading Challenge for 2018 - 14 books (one per month plus 2 alternates/backups) chosen by picking 14 Goodreads' friends whom I have the highest "Compare Books" % with and for each selecting one book that they gave 5 stars to. Thanks to Richard for this one !

Having read nearly all books written by this author this story was unique due to the time period and plot. Just about every book Greg has written takes place in contemporary Mississippi with interesting characters, tons of plot twists and rapid fire momentum. Here he takes the reader to WW II with an American scientist and Jewish guerrilla war soldier. And while well written and paced it pales in comparison to his other stories.

This was a great book! I struggled with one of his other books, but I couldn't put this one down. You become so attached and involved with the characters that you have to keep going to see what happens next. Most of the truly horrific details are about WW2 and the Holocaust are spared for those who have weak tolerance for that and we get a truly well written story!

Clearly 5 Stars, So Well Written... First time reading a book on World War 2, it's so Horrible what the Jews went through... I have watched Movies on World War 2, however reading a book about the war, tore at my HEART.... This is a 2 Book Series, need a break before reading Book 2

Not many people I've come across know about this book. I read a lot of thrillers -- and write some of my own -- and BLACK CROSS by Greg Iles is easily one of the best I've ever read. I'd hate to give much away, but the book, which takes place mostly during WWII, has action, suspense, spies and heart. It deals with disturbing subject matter without sensationalizing it. The characters are complex. And here's something I don't often say about a thriller -- I was very moved by this book. I highly
