Only His (Only #1)
A team of prize Arabian horses is all that Willow Moran has left -- and Caleb Black is the only man who can help her reach her brother in the Colorado Rockies. But she fears this stranger who burns to avenge the wrongs of treacherous men. For Caleb is as wild and unpredictable as the uncivilized land he loves. Yet, though she challenges him at every turn, the spirited southern lady knows this proud, enigmatic loner is her destiny. And no matter what peril awaits, they must face it together -- for Willow has become a fever in Caleb′s blood ... awakening a need so fierce that he would defeat the devil himself to possess her.
I just finished rereading this about 15 years after I read it before. I remembered it as one of my favorites, in fact one of a few books that survived a big purge of books. (Big Mistake!) The reread lived up to my memories of the book I am happy to say. The hero, Caleb Black, was an "old testament type of man" out to avenged his sister's death. Willow, the heroine, was an innocent looking for her brother while posing as his wife. Set in the Rocky Mountains after the Civil War with beautiful
I think that 2-stars is being generous when it comes to this book, however, it's not as bad as a book I read earlier this week and as I can't give half-star ratings (making my view that this book deserves 1.5-stars) this will have to do.Picked for the first 2020 episode of Romance isn't Dead, I ploughed through this book as quickly as I could. I didn't enjoy it over much. The characters were well-written, enough that I took an immediate dislike to the male protagonist. I am not sure how he
I really enjoyed this, but I took away a star for two reasons.Firstly, all the intimate scenes had such flowery language it was a wonder rainbows didnt appear. Secondly, Willows stupidity at the end of the book was too much. I understand feeling insulted, lied to and tricked. However, it does not make sense to go and risk your life traveling a path you couldnt manage by yourself the first time round, into danger, WITH THE HORSE YOU DONT WANT INJURED, and foolishly putting him in harms way for
While this book kept my attention, it had a lot of aspects that kept it from becoming a favorite. The story starts off with Willow and her priceless Arabian horses meeting Caleb Black, a man who will help her to reach her brother who is hidden in the Colorado Rocky mountains. Willow originally lies about her identity, saying that she is married to her brother, thinking that as a married woman she will be offered more protection against unwanted advances. Meanwhile, Caleb himself also has kept a
In the wake of the Civil War, Willow Moran hires Caleb Black to cross the Colorado Rockies in search of her brother. For her own protection, Willow tells Caleb that she is searching for her husband. Caleb accepts the mission because he has his own agenda for wanting to find Willow's 'husband' - revenge. Much adventure and reluctant passion ensues. This is the second book of Lowell's I've read where the initial writing was awkward and unpromising. It's also the second one I've read where Lowell
For me this was essentially a Linda Howard wilderness/survival historical interspersed with Diana Palmer style intimate moments!Dont get me wrong I am a big Elizabeth Lowell fan and love her books. But yes, shes one author who stands close to LH in her style and nothing wrong with it. So we have a surly alpha wild west type H who has to escort the southern lady h through the Rockies across to the San Juans to be with her brother. Now the H hates this brothers guts as he believes this man once

Brilliant essay Her essay at the end on literary v popular fiction, pessimism v optimism, is the best explanation Ive ever read on the battle between critics and actual readers.
